The presence of multinucleated cells may cause differential diagnostic
problems. The presence of oxyphilic cells is of greatest value in
avoiding false diagnosis of de Quervain's thyroiditis. The finding of
giant cells composed of epitheloid cells is a very rare situation.
Taking the clinical and ultrasound presentation into account is
essential in such cases.
