Chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis - Figure 14. Multinucleated cells in lymphocytic thyroiditis.

The presence of multinucleated cells may cause differential diagnostic problems. The presence of oxyphilic cells is of greatest value in avoiding false diagnosis of de Quervain's thyroiditis. The finding of giant cells composed of epitheloid cells is a very rare situation. Taking the clinical and ultrasound presentation into account is essential in such cases.
