Within a few weeks after surgery a minimally hypoechogenic inhomogeneous mass of regenerative tissue replaces the normal thyroid parenchyma, while 6 to 12 months later the regenerative tissue disappeares and muscle fiber and connective tissue can be seen in the thyroid beds.
