In the case of a total lobectomy, muscle fiber and connective tissue replaces the normal thyroid parenchyma (first and second rows of images).
If the patient underwent on near total or subtotal lobectomy, then the thyroid remnant becomes hypoechogenic. The remnant is sorrunded with echonormal rim of connective tissue (second and third rows of images).
From the ventral to the dorsal part of the thyroid bed: muscle fiber (red arrow), connective tissue (blue arrows) and the eosophagus (green arrow) can be seen.
