Case 8 (1308) - Graves' disease

Clinical presentation: A 29-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of complaints suggesting hyperthyroidism. She gave birth for 7 months. There were no signs of thyroid associated orbitopathy.

Palpation: Both lobes were enlarged and a bit firm. No nodule could be palpated.

Laboratory tests: TSH undetectable, FT4 71.4 pM/L? FT3 above 20 pM/L, TSAb 5.1 U/L (normal value below 1.5).

Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and presented numerous tiny hypoechoic areas. The echogenicity index was around 20%. None of these lesions corresponded to pathological nodules. The lobes presented with extremely increased vascularization.
