Subacute granulomatous de Quervain's thyroiditis - Case 25.

Clinical presentation: a 44-year-old woman was referred with subfebrility and thyroid tenderness lasting for 2 weeks. At the beginning of her complaints her thyroids were painful.

Palpation: both thyroids were hard and tender.

Functional state: hyperthyroidism with TSH-level 0.01 mIU/L, FT4 34.1 pM/L, FT3 8.67 pM/L.

Ultrasonography: there were multiple hypoechogenic areas with blurred borders within echonormal background. The vascularization was decreased.

Cytological diagnosis: subacute, granulomatous de Quervain's thyroiditis.

Suggestion: steroid therapy.
