Extrathyroidal spread - case conp 033 (cytologic picture 6)

Pap-smear, 1000x.   Atypical follicular cells are located in irregular groups with nuclear overlapping. It would be a very difficult task to give cytological diagnosis on this smear. We think that this pattern corresponds to atypia of unknown significance. The nuclear atypia does not fulfill the criteria of suspicion of follicular or papillary carcinoma.
