TIRADS - case 2177 |
|
Clinical presentation: A 38-yr-old man was referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule detected on evaluation of elevated blood pressure.
Palpation: no abnormality.
Laboratory tests: TSH 1.08 mIU/L, FT4 12.9 pM/L.
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There was a cystic lesion in the right lobe with minimal if any solid portions.
We tried to aspirate the cyst, but we gained only minimal amount of thick, pale-yellow material. Cytology resulted in benign cystic lesion.
Comment.
-
The issue is whether tiny portions at the cyst' wall should be interpreted as solid areas. If yes than the nodule belongs to peripheral-type cysts, if not than this is a pure cystic nodule.
-
Nevertheless, according to the EU-TIRADS classification, this nodule should be regarded as a low risk, EU-TIRADS 3 lesion.
