Clinical presentation: A 67-year-old man was referred for aspiration cytology of a nodule discovered on carotid Doppler examination.
Palpation: no abnormality.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 1.41 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. The right lobe had a small echogenic nodule while the left did several hypoechogenic lesions including a hypoechogenic nodule presenting lobulated margins and cystic degeneration.
Cytology of the nodule in the left lobe resulted in benign colloid goiter.
Suggestion: ultrasound in 3 years.
