Nodular goiter

Next

Clinical data: A 61-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a multinodular goiter. She was known to have a multifocal thyroid autonomy.

Palpation: Both lobes were nodular on palpation.

Functional state: subclinical hyperthyroidism with TSH 0.001 mIU/L, FT4 19.4 pM/L, FT3 5.93 pM/L.

Ultrasonography. The thyroid was composed of multiple nodules with different echogenicities. There was a small hypoechogenic lesion above the right lobe.

Cytology was performed from the lesion above the thyroid and resulted in benign colloid goiter.

We advised radioiodine therapy, but the iodine uptake was low. Total thyroidectomy was performed.

Histopathology disclosed benign hyperplastic nodules even in the case of the lesion above the right lobe which was located outside the thyroid.
