Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 066

Nodular goiter

Next

Clinical presentation: A 70-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a nodular goiter detected on evaluation of arrhythmia. There were nodules described as suspicious because of the presence of microcalcifications.

Palpation: Both lobes were nodular on palpation.

Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 1.39 mIU/L).

Ultrasonography. Both lobes had several nodules. There were two hypoechogenic lesions in the right lobe which had intranodular granules and lines. These figures corresponded to connective tissue and not to microcalcifications.

Cytology was performed form two hypoechogenic nodules and resulted in benign colloid goiter.

Suggestion: ultrasound in 3 years.
