Clinical presentation: A 31-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a hyperthyroidism which was first diagnosed two years ago and had relapsed for 3 months. She was diagnosed harboring HPV positivity. She was told to get pregnant as soon as possible because a hysterectomy was planned.
Palpation. The thyroid was not palpable.
Laboratory tests: TSH 0.01 mIU/L, FT4 23.0 pM/L.
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and contained hypoechogenic areas which were not nodules in pathological sense.
Considering the circumstances described above, total thyroidectomy was advised and performed. Histopathology disclosed diffuse goiter and focal lymphocytic thyroiditis.
