Clinical presentation: A 31-year-old man was referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule discovered on routine physical examination.
Palpation: The lower pole of the left lobe was nodular.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 1.53 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and inhomogeneous and contained small hypoechogenic punctate areas. There was an irregular lesion in the lower part of the left lobe. The nodule had microcalcifications and presented intranodular blood flow.
Cytology resulted in papillary carcinoma.
Histopathology disclosed papillary carcinoma in the left lobe with a maximal diameter of 9 mm. Hashimoto's thyroiditis was present in the non-nodular part of the thyroid.
