Characteristic ultrasound properties - necrosis and infiltrative nature of the tumor
Anaplastic cancer - Case 1

A large hypoechogenic nodule occupies almost the entire left thyroid. There are irregular echonormal patches marked with red arrows within the nodule. These correspond to necrosis. The thin echonormal rim outside the nodule marked with green arrows corresponds to intact thyroid parenchyma.

Anaplastic cancer - Case 6
Macroscopic pathology disclosed that the ventral smaller hypoechogenic area marked with red arrows corresponded to direct extracapsular spread of the tumor.
