Hypoechogenic lesions in lymphocytic thyroiditis. Nodule or not nodule? Table 4 - Case 21

There is a hypoechogenic lesion in the dorsal part of the minimally hypoechogenic lobe. The lesion has blurred borders and contains microcalcifications. Although the possibility that this area is not a nodule in a pathological sense was more likely than the opposite, a lesion with such ultrasonographic presentation has to aspirated. Cytology resulted in Hashimoot's thyroiditis. The patient underwent surgery. Histopathology disclosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis without any nodule. |
