Compare the two series of pictures. At the first examination (left column), the right thyroid was almost completely intact, while the painful left lobe presented typical signs of subacute thyroiditis. Three weeks later (right column), in spite of the fact that the patient had no complaints and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate normalized, the previously healthy right thyroid presented signs of thyroiditis and had increased in size. Regarding the previously painful left thyroid, the extent of the hypoechogenic areas decreased and the vascularization normalized.
