|
Clinical presentation. A 59-year-old man was referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule which was diagnosed on evaluation of weight gain and depression.
Palpation: No abnormality.
Laboratory tests: TSH 1.44 mIU/L, aTPO-level 395 U/mL.
Ultrasound. Basically, the thyroid was composed of hypoechogenic and moderately hypoechogenic discrete areas. One of these fields located in the upper pole of the left lobe was described as nodule on the previous ultrasound examination. In fact this area was only one of the numerous lesions with identical echopattern, although better circumscribed.
Aspiration cytology of the lesion in question resulted in Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Comment. The lesions in this case are unlikely true nodules except for the lesion is question which is probably not a nodule in pathological sense.
