Ethanol sclerotherapy: thyroid cysts - Case 4 |
|
Clinical presentation: a 60-year-old woman was referred for an evaluation of a recurrent cystic nodule. The cyst was evacuated four times in the previous 2 years.
Cytology: resulted in benign cystic nodule. We suggested ethanol sclerotherapy instead of surgery.
Palpation: an elastic nodule in the right lobe.
Functional state: euthyroidism with TSH 0.66 mIU/L.
Ultrasonography: the thyroids were echonormal. There was a cystic nodule with echonormal solid parts in the right lobe.
Aspiration cytology: resulted in benign colloid goiter.
Six sessions of sclerotherapy were performed. We demonstrate the fourth session.
Follow-up examinations: the patient had no complaints and the nodule did not refill until the last follow-up examination performed five years after the sclerotherapy.
