Oxyphilic adenoma - Case 7. |
|
Clinical presentation: a 61-year-old woman was referred for a follow-up examination. She was examined because of a nodular goiter known for a year. The cytology resulted in benign lesion. We suggested surgery because of the size of the nodule. The patient refused our suggestion because she had no complaints.
Palpation: a firm nodule in the left lobe.
Functional state: euthyroidism with TSH 1.07 mIU/L.
Ultrasonography: disclosed small insignificant lesions in the right lobe and a large minimally-moderately hypoechogenic nodule in the left lobe. The nodule presented a type 2 vascular pattern. The presence of a halo is equivocal in images but unequivocal in the video. The nodule significantly increased in size over one year, from 30x23x38 to 37x27x48 mm (width, depth, length, respectively).
Cytological diagnosis: follicular tumor Hürthle-cell variant.
Histopathology: disclosed Hürthle-cell adenoma.
