Rare forms of thyroiditis - Case 2: Acute purulent thyroiditis
Three weeks after intital examination (ultrasonographic picture 2)
Left lobe, longitudinal scan. There are multiple hyperechogenic granules within the nodule. These correspond to protein-rich figures. Note that the thyroid is moderately hypoechogenic lower to the nodule. This change of the echopattern is probably caused by changes in the vascularization.
