Thyroid lymphomas - Case 8: Large B-cell lymphoma

Next

Clinical data: a 56-year-old woman was presented with a large, painless lump involving the left lobe of the thyroid. The tumor had evolved over 2 months.

Palpation: a large, hard tumor in the left lobe.

Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH-level 1.72 mIU/L).

Ultrasonography: the right lobe was intact. The left lobe was composed of a large hypoechogenic tumor. Only small parts of the thyroid were intact, echonormal. There was no vascularization according to the left thyroid.

Cytology: suspicion of non Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Biopsy was performed from the left thyroid and histopathology revealed large B cell lymphoma.

Comment: we can not exclude the possibility that a lymphoma presented in a lymph node close to the thyroid destroyed the left lobe by direct spreading.
