Right lobe, horizontal view

Right lobe, horizontal view. The ventral part of the thyroid is moderately hypoechogenic while the dorsal part is severely hypoechogenic. The degree of hypoechogenicity of the latter is close to that of the carotid artery. Such degree of hypoechogenicity can be seen in lymphoma and florid type of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Naturally, the clinical picture excluded the possibility of the former.
