The thyroid is composed of pseudonodules which are presented as round structures divided with thin fibrous tissue. The five empty chambers are large dilated macrofollicles.

The former figures are hard to identify on ultrasound while the cystic areas on ultrasound correspond to the dilated macrofollicles.
