Macroscopic presentation of thyroid diseases. Table 15: An embryonal adenoma presenting Hashimoto's thyroiditis and a focus of papillary carcinoma.

Almost the entire lobe is composed of an embryonal adenoma. More bright areas in macroscopic image correspond to large lymphoid areas. There was a solitary focus of papillary carcinoma with a maximal diameter of 15 mm in the central part of the adenoma presented as a grey not well-circumscribed lesion pointed with blue arrows. It is hard to identify the papillary carcinoma in ultrasound image which presents multiple discrete areas displaying microcalcifications.
