Clinical presentation. A 53-year-old woman requested a second opinion. She has been known harboring a nodular goiter for more than 10 years. Aspiration cytology was performed and resulted in benign lesion 5 years ago. In the past two years she has been treated for hyperthyroidism which had recurred 2 month prior the present examination.

Palpation. Both lobes were enlarged. No nodule could be palpated.

Laboratory test: TSH 0.51 mIU/L, FT4 11.7 pM/L on daily 20 mg methimazole. TSAb was 9.2 U/L (normal value < 1.5).

Lesion in question:

the lesion in the central part of the right lobe.

Additional information on the lesion

Dimensions (width x depth x length): 16x12x19 mm.

Taller-than wide sign present: absent.

Intranodular vascularization: present.

Pathologic adenopathy: absent.
