Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 049 |
|
Clinical presentation: A 31-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a nodular goiter which was diagnosed during evaluation of a painful subacute thyroiditis 4 years ago. Two courses of steroid were administered. Then she had no more complaints.
Palpation: The right lobe was suspicious harboring a nodule.
Hormonal evaluation indicated euthyroidism (TSH 1.05 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There were several small, moderately hypoechogenic lesions and a larger, minimally hypoechogenic nodule in the right lobe. The latter was composed of smaller areas. The left thyroid contained moderately hypoechogenic small areas.
Cytology of the larger nodular area in the right lobe resulted in benign colloid goiter.
Comment. The small moderately hypoechogenic areas might be consequences of the previous subacute thyroiditis.
