Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 060

Nodular goiter

Next

Clinical presentation: A 57-year-old woman has noticed a nodule in the thyroid for four months. The nodule caused no complaints.

Palpation: Both lobes were nodular on palpation, the left lobe was substantially enlarged.

Hormonal evaluation indicated euthyroidism (TSH 1.93 mIU/L).

Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and had a small hypoechogenic lesion in the ventrolateral part of the right lobe. There was a hyperechogenic nodule having coarse calcification in the isthmus while the left lobe also had discrete lesions.

Cytology was performed both from the hypoechogenic lesion in the right lobe and from the nodule in the isthmus. The cytology was benign in both cases.

Suggestion: ultrasound in 2 years.
