Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 050 |

Clinical presentation: A 70-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a nodular goiter which was diagnosed during evaluation of suspected lung cancer. CT detected a mass in the left upper mediastinum.
Palpation: The left lobe had a large, not firm nodule.
Hormonal evaluation indicated euthyroidism (TSH 3.46 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There were several insignificant lesions in the right lobe. The left lobe presented a large nodule composed of discrete hyperechogenic areas. The lower pole of the lobe was clearly visible during swallowing (see video).
Cytology of resulted in benign colloid goiter.
Suggestion: ultrasound in a year.
