Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 057 |
|
Clinical presentation: A 52-year-old woman has noticed a nodule for a month.
Palpation: Both lobes had an elastic nodule.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 0.49 mIU/L, FT4 19.4 pM/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There was moderately hypoechogenic nodule with blurred borders in the central part of the right lobe. A cystic nodule having echonormal solid part was found in the lower pole of the right lobe. The left lobe also has a cystic nodule.
Cytology of the moderately hypoechogenic nodule in the right lobe resulted in benign degenerative pattern. Two and 3 mL yellow fluid was removed from the cystic nodule in the right and left lobe, respectively. The cytology resulted in benign cystic degeneration in these cases.
Suggestion: ultrasound in 2 years.
