Left lobe, longitudinal scan. The ventral hypoechogenic mass is the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Note that the thick part of the muscle is followed both upward and downward by more thin muscle fibers. The thyroid is located dorsal to the muscle and is echonormal-minimally hypoechogenic.
