Clinical data: A 67-year-old man was referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule discovered on carotid Doppler examination.

Palpation: an elastic nodule in the right lobe.

Laboratory data: TSH 1.96 mIU/L, FT4 14.3 pM/L.
