Clinical presentation: A 71-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a nodule discovered on carotid Doppler examination.

Palpation: a moderately firm nodule in the left lobe.

Functional state: euthyroidism with subnormal TSH (TSH 0.23 mIU/L, FT4 16.9 pM/L, FT3 4.03 pM/L).

Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There was a hypoechogenic nodule in the left lobe. The lesion had lobulated surface and contained various intranodular hyperechogenic figures including coarse calcification. The lesion showed signs of perinodular blood flow.

Cytology resulted in benign colloid goiter.
