Study on 100 consecutive patients with thyroid nodule - case 031 |
Clinical presentation: A 30-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a nodular goiter which was discovered by the patient several weeks ago.
Palpation: a large firm nodule in the right lobe.
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There was a minimally-moderately hypoechogenic nodule in the right lobe. The presence of halo was doubtful, the lesion displayed perinodular blood flow.
Cytology resulted in benign lesion.
Combined ultrasound-cytological diagnosis was follicular tumor with less than 1% risk of carcinoma.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 1.43 mIU/L).
Suggestion: right lobectomy
Histopathology disclosed follicular adenoma.
