Clinical presentation: A 32-year-old woman came to a follow-up examination. She has been treated for hyperthyroidism twice, last time during her pregnancy. Thyrostatic was stopped at the 20th gestational week. She gave birth to her first child 6 months ago. Actually, except for fatigue and hair loss she had no complaints.
Palpation: no abnormality.
Laboratory tests: TSH 2.71 mIU/L, FT4 13.8 pM/L.
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and presented hypoechogenic areas. The echogenicity index was around 20%. The vascularization was average.
Summary of follow-up. Half a year after this examination the hyperthyroidism relapsed again. After restoration of hyperthyroidism the patient decided to undergo total thyroidectomy instead of radioiodine therapy.
Histopathology: Diffuse goiter corresponding to Graves' disease.
