Hypoechogenic lesions in lymphocytic thyroiditis. Nodule or not nodule? Table 2 - Case 17
Horizontal scans of the right lobe

Longitudinal scan of the right lobe

The thyroid presents multiple hypoechogenic discrete areas and fibrosis - this is one of the typical presentations of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Except for one area located in the upper ventrolateral part of the lobe none of these lesions fit a nodule in a pathological sense. The lesion in question was aspirated and cytology resulted in Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
