Papillary carcinoma - Case 41

De Quervain's thyroiditis - Case 20

Papillary carcinoma - Case 62

De Quervain's thyroiditis - Case 23

Papillary carcinoma - Case 54

Compare the two series of pictures. There is a very close similarity between the presentation of de Quervain's thyroiditis and papillary carcinoma regarding hypoechogenicity and blurred borders. Although the vascularization is increased in typical cases of the latter, papillary carcinoma frequently is presented in the form of type 1 vascularization, i.e. no intranodular blood flow.
