The typical ultrasound presentation of de Quervain's thyroiditis is demonstrated: the thyroid is echonormal and contains hypoechogenic areas with ill-defined borders. The appearance of the thyroid is cloudy because the borders are blurred not only between the echonormal and the hypoechogenic fields but even within the hypoechogenic parts of the thyroid, as well. The vascularization in this case is not typical.
