Cytologic properties - previous radioiodine therapy
Follicular adenoma - Case 35
Graves' disease - Case 7

An actually euthyroid patient was treated with radioiodine 17 years before present investigation.
Although this is more than double of the average lifetime of a thyrocyte, follicular cells present already the effect of previous therapy. Beside marked anisonucleosis and vacuolization, even mild pleomorphism is present.

A patient underwent radioiodine therapy for 3 years. Actually subclinical hyperthyroidism was detected.
The cytological pattern demonstrates the effect of previous isotope therapy: degenerated, partly enlarged follicular cells are found.
