Clinical presentation: A 70-yr-old woman requested evaluation of an enlarged thyroid which has been known for several years. Recently, her neighbor died of thyroid cancer; that made the patient anxious about her thyroid condition.
Palpation: a not firm nodule in the left lobe and in the isthmus.
Laboratory test: TSH 0.42 mIU/L.
Ultrasonography. There was a minimally hypoechoic nodule within a minimally hypoechoic background. The borders of the nodule were indistinctive.
Cytology resulted in benign lesion.
Comment. The lesion presents both pathological and non-pathological forms of blurred margins.
