Clinical presentation: A 67-year-old man was referred for evaluation of a thyroid nodule discovered on carotid Doppler examination.

Palpation: an elastic nodule in the right lobe.

Result of blood tests: TSH 1.96 mIU/L, FT4 14.3 pM/L.

Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal. There was a peripheral-type cystic nodule in the ventral part of the right lobe. The lesion had non-specific echogenic granulations. The lesion did not display vascularization on Doppler mode.

Aspiration cytology resulted in benign cystic lesion.
