Metastasis of a malignant melanoma

Clinical data: a 76-year-old woman was referred for an evaluation of a nodular goiter detected on an evaluation performed because of malignant melanoma. The latter was diagnosed for 4 months in the left upper arm. Histopathology disclosed nodular form.

Palpation: the left lobe and the isthmus was enlarged and firm. Enlarged lymph nodes were also present in the left side of the neck.

Functional state: euthyroidism with TSH-level 2.83 mIU/L.

Ultrasonography: there was a hypoechogenic nodule in the left lobe and an enlarged, irregular lymph node in the left side of the neck.

Cytology: was performed from the enlarged lymph node and from the nodule in the thyroid. Thick black fluid was aspirated. Cytology resulted in both cases in malignant melanoma.
