Clinical data: a 45-year-old woman referred for a follow-up examination of her cyst located in the left lobe. In addition to a cystic nodule in the left lobe several small discrete areas in both lobes were found on ultrasound examination. She had an upper airway infection several weeks prior to present visit. Her left thyroid became painful for two weeks. The complaints have decreased gradually but did not resolve completely. She had no fever.

Palpation: the left lobe was tender.

Functional state: euthyroidism with TSH 1.14 mIU/L, CRP 0.1 mg/L (normal value: < 5).

The lesion in question is located in the ventral part of the right lobe.
