Discrete hyperechogenic or echonormal areas are frequently found in lymphocytic thyroiditis. These may be intact parts of the thyroid not influenced by the underlying thyroiditis (frist and second rows of images) or nodules in a pathological sense (last row of images). The former are characterized by smaller size, multiplicity and irregular borders. Occasionally the ultrasound presentation is equivocal.
