Hypoechogenic lesions in lymphocytic thyroiditis. Nodule or not nodule? Table 1 - Case 11

The thyroid is echonormal with many hypoechogenic areas of various sizes. The echogenicity index was around 30%. We found no suspicious lesions, the hypoechogenic area in question was located in the ventrolateral part of the thyroid. None of the hypoechogenic areas fit nodule, these were in fact more active foci of lymphocytic thyroiditis. This patient underwent surgery, because another colleague found one of the hypoechogenic lesions marked with red suspicious for papillary carcinoma. Histopathology disclosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and there wasn't any nodule in the thyroid. |
