The thyroid is hypoechogenic. There is a small and even more hypoechogenic lesion with hyperechogenic punctate granules in the dorsal part of the lobe. The pattern is not suspicious itself, but the difference in the echostructure between the nodule and other parts of the lobe is enough to indicate aspiration cytology.
