Benign hyperplastic nodules - Case 37
Oxyphilic cells are presented which are located mostly dissociated.
They do not exhibit prominent nucleoli. The cytological pattern is
suspicious fo a Hürthle-cell tumor.
Practically every follicur cells exhibit oxyphilic metaplasia which is
a very suspicious sign for being a lesion a follicular tumor. However,
follicular cells occur mostly in compact clusters and do not
exhibit prominent nucleoli. The cytological pattern is suspicious for
an oxyphilic tumor. |
While the presence of a halo sign is more than doubtful, the nodule
displays perinodular blood flow.
The nodule does not display either a halo sign or perinodular blood
flow
which is a very unusual situation in a follicular tumor. |
Taking the sonographic and cytological data into account, we gave the
diagnosis of a Hürthle-cell tumor.
Taking the sonographic and cytological data into account, we should
have
to give
a combined cytological-sonogrpahic diagnosis of a benign nodule
displaying oxyphilic changes.
