The operated thyroid - Case 12.A patient after a bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy |
|
Clinical data: a 55-year old woman underwent bilateral subtotal lobectomy for nodular goiter 12 years earlier. She was referred for regular follow-up examinations.
Ultrasonography: a sonographic pattern with several discrete circumscribed areas corresponding to normal findings after surgery.
Comment: it is very important not to determine such areas as abnormal lesions. These have no clinical or oncological significance. If we use the term nodule for such irregularities, we cause absolutely unnecessary fear to the patient.
