The operated thyroid - Case 11.

Insignificant lesions in a resected lobe

Nodular goiter

Next

Clinical data: a 65-year-old woman was operated on 14 years earlier because of multinodular goiter. A bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy was performed. The patient was referred for evaluation of a recurrent nodule detected on carotid Doppler examination.

Palpation: no abnormality.

Functional state: euthyroidism on daily 75 microgram levothyroxin.

Ultrasonography. There were several lesions of various echostructure without oncological significance in the partially resected thyroid lobes.

Cytological report : was benign.

Comment: it is very important not to determine such areas as nodules. These have no clinical or oncological significance. If we use the term nodule for such irregularities, we cause absolutely unnecessary fear to the patient.
