Clinical data: a 34-year-old woman was referred for an evaluation of a newly discovered nodule. She was examined because her mother and sister had hypothyroidism.
Palpation: a small firm nodule in the right lobe.
Functional stat : euthyroidism (TSH-level 0.82 mIU/L, aTPO 0 U/mL).
Ultrasonography: the thyroid was echonormal. There was a small hypoechogenic lesion in the right lobe. The nodule contained hyperechogenic areas and had irregular borders.
Cytological diagnosis: suspicion of papillary cancer.
Histopathology: papillary cancer and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
