Follicular adenoma - Case 21. |
|
Clinical data: A 67-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a goiter which has been discovered incidentally on carotid Doppler ultrasonography. The patient had no complaints.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH-level 1.08 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography revealed a mixed solid-cystic nodule in the enlarged left lobe.
Cytological report: repeatedly not diagnostic. The final, integrated clinical-sonographic-cytologic diagnosis was follicular adenoma with great probability. Images of intraoperative imprint smears are presented.
We offered regular follow-up examinations. The patient wished to be operated.
Histopathological examination: disclosed dominantly normofollicular adenoma with degenerative changes.
