Data

Clinical presentation: A 44-year-old woman came to a follow-up exam. She has been operated on for 2 years. A left lobectomy was performed, and histopathology disclosed a solitary, T2 papillary cancer. A year later, a lymph node was detected just lateral to the left lobe with dimensions of 5x3x7 mm. The surgeon suggested ultrasound in a year. Then the patient requested a second opinion. I suggested wait-and-see. The current investigation took place another year after the previous one.

Palpation: no abnormality.

Laboratory tests: TSH 2.84 mIU/L.

The dimensions of the lymph node were 9x5x9 mm. The size of the small hypoechoic remnant in the left thyroid bed remained unchanged.

Additional help. The classification of neck lymph nodes according to the 2013 ETA guideline can be found here (see Figure 1).
